How Signal keeps you safe
Signal is the shared trust layer under every Modora server. This page explains what it does, what it watches, and just as important, what it will never do.
What Signal is
Signal is the trust layer for Discord communities running the Modora bot. It reads public messages, links and images for scam indicators, gathers everything about one account onto one case, and puts that in front of a person. Signal is deliberately conservative: automated systems flag and rank, humans decide, and what is recorded afterwards is carried by evidence from the servers that saw it rather than by our word alone.
It has four parts, and they are one product rather than four modules that happen to ship together.
- Signal Radar sees. Watches what is posted and catches scams, including the ones hidden inside images.
- Signal Registry records. The record of what an account or a server is listed for, who reported it, and how sure we are. The registry has a chapter of its own.
- Signal Shield enforces. What this server does about what Signal knows: the protection level, the trust gate and the registry policy.
- Join Guard holds the door. Holds suspicious new accounts at the door before they can post anything.
How it works
- 1SeeFour instruments report what they saw and nothing more: the message engine, the image reader that pulls text out of screenshots, reports people send in, and submissions from partner servers. Each files the same kind of record, so an image hit and a message hit are the same size of fact.
- 2GatherEverything about one account goes onto one report. Five servers catching the same scammer within an hour is one piece of work with five pieces of evidence, not five separate cases, and the reviewer sees all of it on one screen.
- 3DecideA person reads the evidence and decides. Nothing on this page is decided by the engine on its own: it flags and ranks, and every decision carries the name of whoever made it and the reason they gave.
- 4RecordA confirmed case becomes evidence in the shared registry, credited to the server that saw it. Modora counts as one source however many places a ban lands, so our own opinion can never clear a threshold on its own.
What we track
- Scam messages matching known scam phrasing or classifier signals.
- Suspicious domains: phishing, impersonation and malware delivery.
- Known scammers: accounts confirmed by reviewers across communities.
- Scam campaigns: coordinated patterns repeated across multiple servers.
- OCR image-based scams: text pulled from screenshots and memes.
- Fraud patterns: heuristics for giveaway, NFT and investment scams.
What we don't do
- No private message logging. DM scraping or reading private DMs
- No cross-server tracking without reason. Public user blacklists that expose identities
- No automated bans without review. Cross-server automatic punishments — actions are per server or after staff review
- No selling or sharing of evidence. Exposing user or server identifiers on public pages
- No scraping, and no member lists from outside. We never use a user account, never join a server we were not invited to, and never take a member list somebody else collected. Where our bot is already inside a server a reviewer confirmed is a problem, it records who is there, and being one of them is only ever a log line.
- No punishment for who you were near. Being in a bad server is never a global ban and never a network listing. Running one is a different claim, and it still needs a second independent source before anything follows.
Your rights
Transparency
Public stats (e.g. Modora Signal dashboard, Scam Stats) show aggregated counts only: detections, domains, campaigns. No guild IDs, user IDs, or private evidence. Server-specific data is only visible to users with access to that server.
- Live metrics: scams detected today, active campaigns, suspicious domains, protected communities.
- Transparency report: deeper breakdowns of detections, reports and review outcomes over time.
- Active campaigns and suspicious domains are listed publicly, so communities can act on the same intel we do.

To contest a decision about your own account, start at your standing: it shows what is on your record and hands you the way to open a ticket, where a reviewer answers you and both sides keep the record.
