How Modora protects communities, handles safety, privacy, and transparency — including Modora Signal (Trust & Safety).
What is Modora Signal?
Modora Signal is the Trust & Safety layer of Modora. It brings together:
- Scam detection — Messages and links are scanned for suspicious content (domains, words, patterns).
- Reports — Reports about users or servers (scam, abuse, etc.) that are reviewed by staff.
- Campaigns and domains — Overview of scam campaigns and known suspicious domains.
- Trust check — A public check of whether a Discord account has a "safe" score (e.g. based on blacklist and quarantine).
- Ban appeals — Users on the global ban list can submit a request to be reviewed.
The bot in Discord servers can take actions on detection (e.g. delete message, warn, put user in quarantine), depending on that server's settings.
Check your status & Ban appeals
- Check your status — See if your Discord account has a trust score or flags (e.g. quarantine, ban). You can submit an appeal if you believe something is wrong.
- Ban appeal — If you're on the ban list, you can request a review. Staff will look at your appeal and can unban or adjust your status.
Compliance & privacy
We follow a privacy-first design:
- We do not scrape DMs or read private DMs.
- We do not maintain public user blacklists that expose identities.
- Moderation stays in the hands of server staff; we provide tools and intelligence, not automatic cross-server punishment.
Data and privacy
We use:
- Server-side detection only where Modora is present (no scraping of servers we're not in).
- User-submitted reports and staff-reviewed cases.
- Anonymized aggregated intelligence (e.g. domain lists, campaign counts).
Public stats show counts only, not identities. No user IDs, guild IDs, or private evidence are shown on public pages.
Public transparency
Aggregated scam stats and domain intelligence are available publicly (e.g. Scam Stats, Modora Signal) so communities can see the scale of protection. Server-specific data is only visible to users who have access to that server.
What we don't do
- DM scraping or reading private DMs
- Public user blacklists that expose identities
- Cross-server automatic punishments — Actions are per server or after staff review (e.g. blacklist only when staff approves a report)
- Exposing user or server identifiers on public dashboards
Intelligence, not punishment
Signal provides intelligence and early warnings. Moderation actions (ban, warn, delete message) are taken by server staff within their own community, or by Modora staff after review — not automatically across all servers.
For more on when someone is blacklisted or put in quarantine, see internal documentation; the rules are designed so that blacklist is always a human decision, while quarantine can in some cases be applied automatically (e.g. by the bot on scam detection when the server is configured for it).
