Before adding Modora to your server, make sure you have:
Prerequisites
- A Discord server where you have 'Manage Server' permission
- Administrator or appropriate permissions to add bots
- A Discord account (of course!)

On Discord's authorization page, you'll see a dropdown menu listing all servers where you have 'Manage Server' permission.
Click on the dropdown menu that says "Select a server"

Review the permissions (we recommend keeping all enabled)

If you don't see your server in the list, make sure you have the "Manage Server" permission. Contact your server owner if needed.
Modora requires specific permissions to function properly. Here's what each permission category is used for:
Moderation Permissions
- Kick Members - Remove rule-breaking users
- Ban Members - Permanently ban users
- Manage Messages - Delete spam and inappropriate content
- Timeout Members - Temporarily mute users
- Manage Channels - Lock/unlock channels, set slowmode
Management Permissions
- Manage Roles - Assign roles for reaction roles and leveling rewards
- Manage Webhooks - Create webhooks for ticket transcripts
- Manage Emojis - Access server emojis for reactions
- View Audit Log - Track moderation actions
General Permissions
- Read Messages - See channel content
- Send Messages - Send responses and notifications
- Embed Links - Display rich embeds
- Attach Files - Upload images and transcripts
- Use Slash Commands - Enable command functionality
- Connect & Speak - Join voice channels for music
ℹ️ Note:
Modora does store message content where a feature needs it. Ticket conversations are saved and turned into a transcript that is deleted 24 months after it is generated. The Logging module records message edits and deletions and keeps them for 30 days by default, configurable between 1 and 365 days. AI chat stores every message and the reply to it, and there is no scheduled deletion for that data. All permissions are used solely for bot functionality. Read our Privacy Policy for more information.
1. Check the Member List
Look for Modora in your server's member list. It should have a "BOT" tag next to its name.
2. Try a Command
Type /help in any channel. If Modora responds, it's working correctly!
3. Check the Dashboard
Visit the dashboard and sign in with Discord. Your server should appear in the server list.
After reviewing the permissions:
Prerequisites
- Click the 'Authorize' button
- Complete the CAPTCHA verification (if prompted)
- Wait for the confirmation message
Success!
Modora should now appear in your server's member list. You should receive a welcome message in your server from the bot with quick start information.
If you don't see a welcome message, check that Modora has permission to send messages in at least one channel.
Bot doesn't respond to commands
- Check that Modora has 'Send Messages' and 'Use Slash Commands' permissions in the channel
- Try running /help in a different channel
- Make sure you're using slash commands (/) not regular text commands
- Verify Modora has 'View Channel' permission
Bot doesn't appear in server
- Refresh your Discord client (Ctrl+R)
- Check your server's audit log to confirm the bot was added
- Try re-inviting the bot using the invite link
- Make sure you selected the correct server during authorization
Permission errors
- Make sure Modora's role is above the roles it needs to manage
- Check that specific permissions are enabled in the channel
- Grant Administrator permission for simplest setup
- Review Discord's role hierarchy system
